April 28 – National Day of Mourning

Every year on April 28th we observe the National Day of Mourning. We remember those workers who have been killed on the job because of workplace accidents and stand together with workers who have endured injuries due to workplace hazards.

April 28th is also the United Nations’ World Day for Safety and Health at Work, marked to highlight the importance of accident and disease prevention at work and to foster strong Occupational Health and Safety workplace cultures.

Let’s continue to work together to make sure Occupational Health and Safety legislation and workplace policies are strengthened and enforced. As safety risks increase, employers and workers must remain vigilant to ensure necessary protections keep pace.

As union members we can keep health and safety a top priority in every conversation with employers and the government. Let’s ensure our colleagues feel safe in their workplaces and can return to their loved ones when the work day is done.
