Important Message From OPSEU Hospital Professionals Division

January 18, 2016

Dear HPD members,

I am pleased to announce that today Monday January 18, OPSEU is launching the Hospital Professionals Division media campaign, highlighting the dismantling of public hospitals and the takeover of health care by for-profit companies.
Through this campaign we hope to influence public opinion and pressure the Wynne government to reconsider hospital cuts in the upcoming provincial budget in 2016.
We are entering the ninth consecutive year of hospital cuts – the longest stretch of hospital cuts in Ontario’s history. Today Ontario is in last place in hospital funding in Canada. The province has cut more beds and services than any other province. Hospitals are discharging patients before they are ready. Every service cut is privatized, subject to user fees, or moved far away from many communities.
Our campaign dovetails with the Ontario Health Coalition rallies being held in each city where the Standing Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs is holding pre-budget meetings this week. Let’s make our voices heard, together with our allies, to put a stop to devastating hospital cuts!

The campaign will feature:

1) Radio ads that will run in selected communities across Ontario.
2) Website publicisbetter.ca for the latest information on health cuts, rallies and lobbying MPPs.
3) Video: “What happened to health care?”  click here to view

  • Tweet @publicisbetter by using the hashtag #notoprivateclinics
  • Make sure to circulate website widely.
In solidarity,

Sara Labelle
Chair, OPSEU Hospital Professionals Division
